Rescue groups were formed with dogs like Charlie Brown in mind. Charlie has been through a lot in his 4 short years of life, and this ever-resilient special needs pup keeps soldiering on – now ready to find a forever family. Charlie currently lives with his foster family near Lancaster, PA and is officially cleared for adoption!
Charlie’s foster mom will tell you that he’s never met a stranger. Thriving on human attention and getting along well with everyone – children (8 grandkids in his foster family), all adults and a pack of dogs, Charlie just wants to be noticed and be part of the Peanut’s gang. He’s been known to nudge Snoopy out of his favorite person’s lap, to make room for only himself. He’s much more optimistic than his namesake in the cartoon, and this Charlie Brown knows his perfect human is reading about him right now.
Needing medical attention, Charlie was rescued from euthanasia in July when he found S.N.O.R.T. Charlie is a tripod dog, missing his right front leg. He is also one eyed, with scarring in his remaining eye but vet says he can see fine. Under S.N.O.R.T’s care, Charlie also had the TECA ear surgery due to chronic infections. He is considered deaf but can hear some very loud noises as a muffled noise. In addition to all of that, this little fella also needed to have his corkscrew tail amputated. Good grief you may say, but Charlie takes it all in stride and is ready to share many more positive life adventures. For example, Charlie likes to go on vacation! He went to the beach with his foster family this summer and enjoyed the smells of the salt air as he rode the boardwalk in his pet stroller. He is able to walk and even do 1 or 2 stairs but prefers riding and enjoying the outdoors as a passenger. He smiled as he passed his boardwalk admirers and would have been willing to sign autographs if he could only hold a pen in his paw.
Some might wonder why a rescue would put all of this medical effort into one dog. Simply put, Charlie loves life and loves attention from humans. He’s 4 years old and has a lot of living to do. And not surprising – this 3 legged, 1 eyed, no tail dog manages to capture the hearts of everyone he meets. Everyone fusses over sweet as can be Charlie Brown. Charlie has the ‘wow’ factor. His favorite thing in the world is to snuggle and cuddle with his human bestie. Charlie wants to be wherever you are and would do well in a forever home where someone is near him most of the day. He is described as affectionate, friendly and calm.
Charlie uses a doggie door in his foster home but has previously been trained to pee pads and is sometimes still choosing the pee pad instead of the door. He’s making great strides in this department but will need continued reinforcement in order to do all business outdoors. And we all know Charlie Brown is not a quitter.
Charlie eats special diet kibble due to allergies and receives monthly allergy treatments. He also needs eye lubrication gel a few times daily due to an eye that doesn’t fully blink. He’s not ready for skilled care but does need a diligent human parent to take the best care of him so that he can continue to be a happy boy and have a long and fulfilled doggie life. A home with limited steps and a person around most of the time is high on his wish list.
This grateful boy wants to share many more adventures and dreams of a warm lap to cuddle in, strolling the boardwalk on next year’s vacation, and hanging his Christmas stocking at his forever home this year at the holidays.
