Stuey

Hey, you! Yes, YOU! Look at me, look at me!  Whatcha doin’? Where ya goin’? Can I come, please, please, please?! I love to go everywhere with my people, whether it’s on an epic adventure to the park or the office, or just a stroll to the other room for some couch snuggles, I am right there giving you all of my attention and doing everything I can to get all of yours.

It’s true that a big part of my special Stuey charm is how confident and assertive I am, but I want you to know that underneath all that bluster and self-assuredness, I struggle a bit with insecurity, especially since I had to leave my family and go out into the big world all on my own not that long ago. I’m very lucky and grateful that my foster mama is giving me the love and attention I deserve, and she is so patient with my occasional antics. She totally ‘gets’ me and makes me feel safe, and I would really like my furever family to understand that being alone makes me pretty scared, and when I’m scared, I don’t always make the best choices. One time, I took my anxiety out on a doormat—it wasn’t really a fun toy, but I was mad at the door because it took my people away, so I had to do SOMETHING!  I just know it was the door’s fault, because I happen to be the most perfectest companion for my people, so they would NEVER intentionally leave me behind. I’m not a big fan of doors anyway, so if I see my human going through one, I will try to sneak through it, too… take that, ya puny door! And I’m fast, so you have to watch out for me (that’s what my foster mom says—for the record, I think you should let me go wherever I want)!

Remember, I’m only 3, and I’ve gone through so much big change, so my world is sort of topsy turvy right now All I really want is to find my humans and then never let them out of my sight! And since I’m only 3, I know that with the right family and friends, who can give me consistency with training and TREATS, I will learn to relax and be as confident on the inside as I am on the outside (then, look out, world)! Being on a schedule is very good for me, especially when it comes to bathroom time—I am doing great with potty training, but I love to stay hydrated, so I need lots of opportunities to go outside.  The only time I won’t follow my people is if they are going down stairs. Those are too scary for lil ol’ me! I don’t mind going up them; but down, you just have to carry me, please!

Did I mention I love attention and want all of it? I am always finding very clever ways to get it, too. One of my favorite methods is to ‘borrow’ things you’ve just put down and run away so you have to chase me. Don’t worry, I give them back when you find me—I didn’t really want them, I just wanted YOU! No matter what, I will always want your affection and praise more than anything else in the whole entire world—and you will always have mine! Like, even though I love other dogs and am always ready to play, I will do my best to distract you from petting them by marching my little body right in between you two to remind you that you are MINE and you should only pet me! I don’t really get mad about it, it’s just my fear of losing you that drives a lot of my behavior. Like I said, I’m an assertive little dude! And boy, has it paid off—at only three years old, I’ve been promoted so many times that I’m officially The Boss of the Universe! My humans are even more important than that very important job, so my agenda every day will be filled with us reassuring each other that we can love and trust with our whole selves, because we are a family! Communication is one of my favorite ways to connect, so I know we will have endless heart-to-heart conversations about how wonderful I am! I mostly speak in my native language, which is snorts, huffs, and hums (you won’t believe the monster snores my tiny body can create, too)! But even with all my chattiness, I must admit I haven’t learned to interpret many human words (especially not  “no”… that word is the worst!), but I’m very, very smart, so with patience in the face of my sometimes-roguish stubbornness, there’s nothing I couldn’t do!
